Baking with an angel

Someone who knows her way around the kitchen and has definite ways to do all that she does is my girl A.  She knows to wash up before preparing food (most of the time without prompting) and she dons her cute little apron every chance she gets.  She is very precise about measurements and follows recipes to the T.   This week we decided to knock out a badge requirement for American Heritage Girls (AHG) called the Cake Decorating badge.  It's requirements were to make a cake or cupcakes, then frost & decorate them.  She was all in.  She didn't want or really need my help except for some supervision where egg shells are concerned and oven operations.

Results were some wonderful cupcakes which she shared with her sister, neighbors and Grandpa.  She had to test them out for herself too!

I love baking with my angel.

Lovely Locks

Friday was a good day. It was a blessing to my heart and I am so proud of A. She wanted to cut her hair, which was very long and caused a great deal of angst during hair brushing time. She had decided to donate her hair to Locks of Love, an organization who makes hair pieces for children who, for a variety of reasons, do not have hair. Beforehand, I had to capture a photo of the girls with their locks intertwined. Love my girls!!

Fossil Hunting

We enjoyed the John Day Fossil Beds with a group of home educators in September. We traveled to various places and learned a tremendous amount about how our earth was created. This was certainly a trip to remember.

A Mother's Day Adventure

It all started yesterday with the hopes & dreams of our 8 year old and the rest of us too! Could we find the treasure? We just had to try. So we ate lunch then hopped into the trusty minivan to take a road trip. Yes, it was spontaneous. Yes, it was a long shot. But alas, we did it. We traveled nearly 560 miles round trip. We encountered horses, sheep & cattle as usual. We also saw antelope, new bird species, rabbit and deer. There was sunshine, rain, hail & snow. Did I mention this was an adventure? We arrived at our nicely deduced locale and searched high & low. Well, mostly low since the "treasure" was buried. Alas, we did not find anything. Had we figured incorrectly? A stay at a nearby hotel allowed us more time for internet searches & more clue hunting. We retraced our steps again this morning in the rain and again came up empty handed. We packed up & headed home. Defeated but not discouraged. We had a wonderful adventure we will not soon forget. Thank you family for our Mother's Day Adventure!

Happy Easter

What a glorious day. We were able to enjoy the celebration of the resurrection with close friends. The girls had an absolutely marvelous time coloring eggs and playing games.

Karate & Rollerskates

Today was so fun! C started karate and is LOVING it! Wow - I haven't seen this much enthusiasm since. . . gee, I can't remember. Her teacher is wonderful and reinforces so many great things. Yahoo!

The girls and I met another homeschool family to rollerskate today and we were the ONLY ones there! The staff & owner were extremely friendly. They even served a complimentary popcorn snack to our small group. Hopefully they keep this going for a while since we enjoyed it so much! Plus we need to practice. C was skating on her own after a while, but A was needing much more support.
